Role Overview

Role Title: Program Assistant
Wage: $22.00/hour + 4% vacation pay
Benefits: Cell Phone and Travel Stipend
Start Date: April 27, 2026
Duration: 18-week contract (ends August 30, 2026)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Hybrid - Work remotely and on-site in Durham Region, Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, or Hamilton.

What You’ll Do

This role is primarily focused on facilitating outdoor cleanups for our Love Your Lakes program. A small portion of this role will be dedicated to administrative tasks and community outreach, including attending partner events. You'll find a more detailed breakdown of the responsibilities below.

Event Assistance

  • Organize and lead litter cleanups as part of the Love Your Lakes program.

  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers to create successful events.

  • Prepare and manage cleanup equipment, ensuring all materials are available.

  • Welcome volunteers, explain event goals, and provide on-site leadership.

  • Collect, record, and analyze data on litter collected at each event.

  • Educate participants on the connection between waste management, environmental health, and climate change.

  • Capture photos and videos to highlight program success.

  • Participate in various community events to provide outreach and recruit potential volunteers.

Administration & Teamwork

  • Use the Jibble App to log your hours and track activities.

  • Assist with volunteer registration, data entry, and event reporting.

  • Maintain communication with team members, providing timely updates.

  • Attend virtual and in-person meetings to align with organizational goals.

  • Is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Is proficient in data collection and able to analyze findings accurately.

  • Can navigate event sites independently, using a map or phone coordinates.

Requirements

  • Must be between 15-30 years old and legally entitled to work in Canada (Canada Summer Jobs program requirement).

  • Access to a smartphone and a data plan for remote work.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.

  • Access to a vehicle for transportation to and from the lakeshore is an asset.

  • The role requires availability on evenings and weekends, with your schedule varying week-to-week.
