The UNSMOKE
Butt Blitz®
Join Canada’s Largest Cigarette Litter Cleanup
Participate Anywhere in Canada
No public events near you? You can still take part in the UNSMOKE Butt Blitz anywhere in Canada throughout April.
Collect cigarette butts in your own community, on your own schedule, and help us reach our national goal of 1 million cigarette butts collected in April.
How it Works
1. Register
Sign up as an individual participant using the form below.
2. Learn the basics
You’ll receive a short training through email that covers safety, what to collect, and how to submit your data.
3. Collect cigarette butts
Go out anywhere in your community during April and collect cigarette litter once or multiple times.
4. Submit your data
Each time you go out, submit how many cigarette butts you collected so your impact counts toward the national total.
What You’ll Need
Gloves (reusable or disposable)
An upcycled container (e.g. yogurt tub, jar, bucket)
Optional - litter picker or tongs
Register
Register through this form to participate as an individual. Once you sign up, we’ll guide you through the next steps by email.
You’re Joining a National Effort
Thousands of people across Canada participate in the UNSMOKE Butt Blitz each year, from public events to individual cleanups in local neighbourhoods.
Your participation helps build a clearer picture of cigarette litter across Canada and supports real, tangible solutions.
Every cigarette butt collected as part of individual participation:
contributes to our 1 million butt goal
is included in our live national totals
helps turn cigarette litter into recycled products
If we reach 1 million cigarette butts in April, we’ll build a bench made from recycled cigarette butts through TerraCycle, and volunteers will help decide where it’s installed in Ontario.
You can follow our progress toward 1 million in real time on our live dashboard
