Ajax: Library of Things

Ajax, ON

Borrow more than books with free access to toys, park passes, pedometers, bike locks, hotspots, and other useful items through Ajax Public Library.

About

Ajax Public Library’s Library of Things helps people borrow practical and recreational items without having to buy them. The Library of Things includes a Toy Library, pedometers, Ontario Parks passes, mobile hotspots, iPads, Launchpads, STEM kits, GPS geocaching kits, kilowatt kits, and bike locks. The library’s Main Branch is located at 55 Harwood Ave. S., Ajax, ON.

How it works

  1. Use your Ajax Public Library card to search and place holds on Library of Things items.

  2. Borrow from categories such as toys, pedometers, Ontario Parks passes, hotspots, STEM kits, GPS geocaching kits, kilowatt kits, and bike locks.

  3. Loan periods vary by item type. Ajax Public Library’s borrowing FAQ says passes have a 7-day loan, while devices, kits, and toys have a 21-day loan with borrowing limits by category.

  4. Return the items so they can stay in circulation for the next borrower.

Why it’s low-waste

Ajax Public Library makes it easier for people to borrow the kinds of items they may only need occasionally, whether that is a park pass for a day trip, a hotspot for temporary internet access, a bike lock, or toys and activity kits for kids. By keeping these items in shared community use, the library helps families save money, reduce clutter at home, and avoid one-time purchases that might otherwise be used only a few times.
