For more than 20 years, Canadians have celebrated Waste Reduction Week, a national campaign that highlights the importance of sustainable consumption and responsible waste management. Taking place this year from October 20–26, 2025, the week encourages individuals, schools, businesses, and municipalities to reflect on their habits and take action to reduce waste in everyday life.
Each day of the campaign spotlights a different theme, such as plastics, textiles, e-waste, and food waste, showing how small changes can add up to a big impact. From repair cafés and swap events to shoreline cleanups and community workshops, Waste Reduction Week brings people together to learn, share, and take meaningful steps toward a less wasteful future.
At A Greener Future, we see Waste Reduction Week as a chance to celebrate the progress we’ve made and inspire even more action. Through our cleanups, data collection, and awareness campaigns, we’re proud to play a role in reducing waste and protecting the Great Lakes. By joining an event or taking simple actions at home, like refusing single-use items, repairing what you can, or choosing secondhand, you’re helping build a culture of conservation that benefits both people and the planet.
