PRESS RELEASE: A Greener Future and UNSMOKE Canada Host Landmark Cigarette Litter Cleanup on World Cleanup Day
Toronto, Ontario – September 2025 – A Greener Future and UNSMOKE Canada are excited to announce the September 2025 edition of the UNSMOKE Butt Blitz — a nationwide campaign to tackle cigarette litter pollution across Canada, culminating in a massive flagship cleanup event at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre on World Cleanup Day, Saturday, September 20th.
This month-long campaign aims to collect 1 million cigarette butts across Canada throughout September, with coordinated events taking place in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Hamilton, Oshawa, Collingwood, and more.
Through this ambitious campaign, A Greener Future and UNSMOKE Canada are empowering individuals, environmental groups, corporate teams, and communities to take direct action and be part of something meaningful.
Flagship Event: Toronto – Saturday, September 20, 2025
On World Cleanup Day, A Greener Future will host Canada’s largest cigarette litter cleanup at the Harbourfront Centre (North Orchard) in downtown Toronto. The event is open to all — individuals, corporate teams, environmentalists, activists, and anyone passionate about clean communities.
📍 Location: Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay W, Toronto, ON
🕙 Time: 10 AM – 2 PM (drop-in anytime)
🎯 Goal: Collect and visually display cigarette litter in large transparent collection bins — a dramatic, shareable symbol of the pollution problem.
Participants will be able to collect cigarette butts from anywhere in the City and drop them off at our centralized event space, or pick up butts locally at the event site. Butts will be counted by weight and volume and shipped to TerraCycle for recycling.
