From $5,000 to $10,000: How Science Based Ingredients Is Powering Community Cleanups

Science Based Ingredients (SBI) has doubled its support for A Greener Future from $5,000 to $10,000, helping power 20 community cleanups that bring volunteers together, remove litter from parks and shorelines, and collect valuable data about pollution.

A Partnership That Just Makes Sense
At first glance, nutraceutical ingredients and litter cleanups might not seem like an obvious match, but the connection is strong: healthier communities depend on a healthy environment.
SBI names “Sustainably Sourced” among its core values, considering social, ecological, and environmental impacts when evaluating how it operates and the partners it works with. As a member of 1% for the Planet, SBI directs 1% of its gross annual revenue to environmental organizations and chose A Greener Future as one of the organizations it supports.
We also share a belief that good decisions start with good information. SBI develops science-based solutions that advance health and wellness, while A Greener Future collects detailed litter data to better understand pollution and work toward long-term solutions. For both organizations, science is a tool for creating healthier communities and a healthier planet.
What $10,000 Makes Possible
Our volunteers bring the energy and enthusiasm, but every community cleanup also needs equipment, planning, and plenty of behind-the-scenes coordination. SBI’s support helps cover essential event costs, including:
Cleanup equipment and safety supplies, such as litter pickers, buckets, bags, first aid kits, and hand sanitizer
Park permits, parking, and other operational expenses
Volunteer registration and check-in tools
Event planning, volunteer coordination, data management, and program support
These may not be the flashiest parts of a cleanup, but they’re what keep each event safe, welcoming, and impactful. With approximately $500 supporting each event, SBI’s $10,000 contribution can help fund up to 20 community cleanup events.
Every Cleanup Adds to the Bigger Picture
We love seeing the transformation that happens when volunteers clean a park, trail, or shoreline. But our work doesn’t stop when the bags are full.
At every cleanup, the litter collected is sorted, counted, and categorized using A Greener Future’s data sheet. This litter data collection turns hands-on community action into citizen science and helps us track pollution trends over time.
The information we collect allows us to:
Identify the most commonly littered items
Better understand where pollution is accumulating
Explore how waste moves through communities and ecosystems
Support environmental education and community outreach
Contribute to conversations about waste reduction and environmental policy

Cleaner Spaces Today, Better Solutions Tomorrow
Across 20 cleanup events, volunteers will remove thousands of pieces of litter from parks, shorelines, trails, and other public spaces.
They may find everything from food wrappers, plastic packaging, and discarded bottle caps to foam, microplastics, and cigarette butts. Every item removed contributes to cleaner outdoor spaces, healthier waterways, and better protection for wildlife.
Just as importantly, every item counted tells us something. By understanding what is ending up in the environment and where it may be coming from, we can work toward preventing litter before it becomes pollution.

SBI’s original $5,000 contribution was already helping make a meaningful difference. By adding another $5,000, SBI has doubled its total support and given us the opportunity to reach more communities, welcome more volunteers, and collect even more environmental data.
